The Broadcast Bridge Published Over 200 Articles Last Month

It was a busy October for the editors at The Broadcast Bridge. During that month, we published more than 200 feature articles, tutorials, essential guides and new products information. A reader could be excused for missing some of that content, especially in light of the multiple exhibitions and conferences that took place in the same time frame.

To help The Broadcast Bridge members stay up-to-date and not miss key technology information, here are two articles, we believe readers will find highly interesting and valuable.

The lure of enhanced UHD and HDR pictures over what we now know as traditional definition HD is enticing to all digital content creators. Even so it puts broadcasters on the horns of a dilemma: how can they capitalize on (i.e. make a buck from) the new technologies in the face of alternative delivery technologies before the rapidly evolving desires of a fickle public literally put them out of business?

Thomas Bause Mason, director of standards development, SMPTE presented a paper, “The State of UHD and HDR:Five Things Everyone Should Know," at NAB NY 2018. Learn more about the technology and how it may be leveraged in the article, linked above.

Portable external hard drives pretty much all look the same, but, of course, they vary by storage capacity and file formats that include names like HFS+, NTFS, FAT32 or exFAT. Those file formats are an endless cause for confusion for the uninitiated.

The Broadcast Bridge writer Frank Beacham simplifies the decision-making process when selecting the proper format for external computer drives. While the process is not complicated, even so, there are some pitfalls if one isn't careful.

Beacham notes, that while it’s convenient to purchase the hard drive that will work with a specific computer right out of the box, most external hard drives can also be reformatted so users are not limited to the initial choice. He then shows the reader how to reformat an external hard drive for either Mac or Windows. Catch this insightful tutorial at, “Choosing the Correct Format for External Drives.”
