Vizrt Keys on IP Production for SMPTE 2018

Vizrt to showcase Viz Engine’s capabilities to support IP-based production.

At SMPTE 2018, Vizrt will be demonstrating a focus on the journalist at the center of productions.

Key to this is Viz Pilot, a template-based graphics and video management application which can interface with major newsroom systems.

Viz Pilot offers a live preview for the journalist and a workflow allowing for last minute changes right up until air time. Because Pilot is based on HTML-5, the features can be accessed from anywhere the user has a browser.

Viz Story will also be on display. It enables the production of compelling video stories with full real-time, state-of-the-art 3D graphics and then immediately upload to online and to social media. A browser-based interface allows users to edit a story and then adjust video and graphics to suit different aspect ratios for Facebook and other online targets.

Most TV s stations also have a streaming presence these days, and many more are existing only on the Web with streaming interfaces. Viz Story leverages the power of Viz Engine to composite graphics and video in formats such as MPEG-2 at 1080i/25, 1080i/29.97, 1080p/30, 720p/50 and others for online, mobile devices and live on-air.

Viz Engine 3.11 integrates with a SMPTE 2110 IP workflow using a Matrox X.mio3 IP card. For the card to work, two additional SFP (Small form-factor pluggable transceiver) modules like those from Embrionix are required: one for input and one for output. Each of the SFPs is equipped with two HD-SDI connectors.

The Viz Engine also supports SDC-01, SDC-02, and SDC-03 protocols from Grass Valley to obtain telemetry data when a Matrox X.mio3IP card is running in 2022-6 mode for transport of high bit rate media signals over IP networks.

This new iteration of Viz Engine offers compositing NDI (NewTek’s royalty-free Network Device Interface) and SDI inputs, streaming through WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication), and up to 16 RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) stream inputs.

With this new level of capabilities for an IP-based workflow, the system can offer HDR (High Dynamic Range) video on both input and output as well as DVE clip playback to enable end-to-end live UHD production.
