The Broadcast Bridge technology editor, Tony Orme, continues his series on live television delivery via IP. In part 3 of this series, “Cost-effective IP Contribution and Distribution,” he examines how new consumer viewing habits mean increased demands on how broadcasters and content delivery companies transmit and manage media.
In the article Orme examines unique delivery challenges for live sports. He notes that this is one application where OTT monitoring needs to go much further than the standard video and audio level tests to keep viewers engaged with their service. Simply delivering IP media packets to a mobile device is not enough as broadcasters must be sure the viewer receives a good Quality of Experience (QoE).
