Viz Story helps create compelling videos with 3D graphics and can then publish them on-air or direct to social media.
Vizrt is expanding its gallery of software solutions with new versions that will keep it on the forefront of IP production.
During my interview direct from Norway, the company's CTO, Petter Jakobs, detailed for me some of the many advancements the company has introduced into key software products. The last time he and I talked was at NAB and now both the Vizrt Engine and Artist versions 3.11 have been updated.
“For example, when we designed the new VizStory 1.6, our online video editing and publishing tool, we gave it not only improved audio capabilities and real time 3D graphics, but also the ability to efficiently distribute to online and social media,” he told me. “It now has an audio preview window that works similarly to the video preview function, letting operators scrub through an audio timeline and mark ‘in’ and ‘out’ points as well as fade in/out marks with audio key frames.”
Another new feature is that it uses standard keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste, [ctrl]+[c] and [ctrl]+[v], saving time when similar audio effects need to be repeated.
Because Vizrt Story 1.6 is a browser-based editor, it works on any platform.
"The Story 1.6 release also builds upon the subtitling improvements in our 1.5 version, letting you copy subtitles when you copy video,” Jakobs said. “We intended its ease of use to be especially appealing for journalists.”
The product's collaborative editing feature allows multiple users to edit the same timeline.
“Just get an internet link, and you are going,” Jakobs said. “A journalist should not have to consider where the story will be published, whether it is for social media or broadcast.”
Viz Multiplay 2.4
Many of the improvements in the new Viz Multiplay 2.4 are in response to the changing environments within today’s IP facilities.

“Once we saw the burgeoning number of screens that are appearing in modern production studios, we realized there was a need to drive all those displays,” Jakobs continued. “So when we brought out Viz Multiplay 2.4, our multi-screen control system, we gave it new tools for configuring physical video wall arrangements.”
The designer function uses one or more Datapath Fx4 Display Wall Controllers so that an unlimited number of outputs can be combined, cropped, scaled or rotated. These wall layout configurations can then be imported into Viz Multiplay to help the preset designer create different wall configurations.
Keyboard shortcuts have been added that let creative engineers use pixels instead of percentages to achieve greater accuracy in their design.
Viz Mosart 3.9
There are at least as many installations of Viz Mosart as any other automation system, and Jakobs admitted that his company inherited its odd transmogrification of the name’s spelling, with due apologies to Wolfgang Amadeus.
“That name was created before we acquired the company,” Jakobs laughed a bit. “It comes from a family of musicians, but also carries the flavor of ‘most integration’ with the ‘rt’ from our name.”
Viz Mosart provides template-based automation and touchscreen-capable hot keys
Although the Mosart 3.9 works well with any video switcher, additional features are available when used with Grass Valley Kula and Kahuna video switchers.
The new version adds AvAutomation, which includes effects transition, optional delay for audio file and directtake.
Operators create multiple drop-keys per AdLibPix clip, which then can trigger multiple production elements including video, audio and graphics into one key click,

Then, saving perhaps the most expected release for last, the new Viz Trio 3.2 software is the latest version of Vizrt’s graphics and video control system for the control room and remote production van.
Whereas in previous versions, only templates available in the Graphic Hub could be added to the Viz Trio playlist, with version 3.2 it can import templates from any Viz Engine archive.
To insure that the latest version of a template is being employed, scene changes will automatically trigger a re-import of the most recent template. To keep track, the new template list will show the progress of both the archive import and the template re-import process.
Version 3.2 also includes a new partial show option to create an archive for only selected pages, copying all the dependencies (templates, scenes and scripts) from one show and adding them to another current show. This can be especially handy for an operator dealing with the pressures of a live production.
