Coach Capture is a cross platform (Mac/Windows) video system for sequencing and displaying sports highlights.
Coach Capture is ChyronHego’s latest addition to its Coaching Product suite, providing an easy way to log and organize video clips for teaching or play-by-play analysis.
ChyronHego has expanded its family of sports coaching aids by introducing Coach Capture, a video logging tool available on laptops running macOS X or Windows (versions 7 and 10) as well as Windows tablets.
As James Clarke-Reed, head of sports performance and technology solutions at ChyronHego, told me during an interview direct from London, Coach Capture is specifically designed to integrate with their Coach Paint telestrator.
“We’ve worked with elate sports teams to create a user-friendly system that can gather video images from any camera or video feed,” he said, “ and quickly log, and organize them into game clips."
Coach Capture imports the clips in the H.264 format, otherwise known as MPEG-4 Part 10, Advanced Video Coding (MPEG-4 AVC) in either 1080 or 720 resolutions. The clips can be trimmed with frame accuracy, transferred either to Coach Paint for illustration and teaching purposes or, if needed, sent our to air.
But there is more.
“Although our primary focus at the moment is elite professional coaching applications, ChyronHego will soon be giving the telestration capabilities of our Coach Paint to the new Coach Capture system,” Clarke-Reed told me, ”We should expect to see that technology merger by August.”

Sharp-eyed headers will have also seen that mention of “frame-accurate” editing, which means that ChyronHego has taken the first step toward getting into editing technology. After all, Coach Capture lets you automatically add clips to playlists and reorganize them on the fly, utilizing all formats from SD to 1080 HD and external XML files from other data and video sources.
“Once the synergy between Coach Capture and Coach Paint has been accomplished, we will have a system suitable for use in the locker room as a training device as well as for broadcast to explain complex plays,” Clarke-Reed finished up, “enabling sports pros and on-camera talent to log notational data with its intuitive pop-out labels, organize desktop space, and avoid the clutter of multiwindow confusion.”
