Canal Digital Deploys UI From 3 Screen Solutions for Hybrid Satellite Service

Nordic pay TV provider Canal Digital has gone live with its latest hybrid Ultra HD (UHD) satellite/OTT service with help from German multiscreen software provider 3 Screen Solutions for the set top box user interface and front end.

Called OnePlace, the new service is being delivered to about 850,000 subscribers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

“OnePlace is based on Android TV, and the open ecosystem will ensure future innovation to the benefit of our customers. A number of suppliers have cooperated on developing the product,” said Tone Krohn Clausen, Canal Digital Chief Product & Digital Officer.

OnePlace gives Canal Digital subscribers some features in addition to those that come with Google’s Android TV package. According to 3 Screen Solutions (3SS) these include an integrated user experience combining linear satellite, streamed and on-demand content, all presented in one single channel array personalized to each customer. There is also a backwards EPG for catch-up content as well as access to Canal Digital’s VoD content base of movies and series. Linear content can be recorded on a hard drive with harmonized search across available sources including third party apps from Android and recommendations. There is also support for Google’s Cast, Play Store and Assistant for voice control and unified search.

3SS delivered its first major Android based TV platform for Swisscom in 2014.
