Avid Anchors NBC’s Winter Olympic Coverage

Avid technology is key to NBC Sports producing the 2018 Winter Olympic Games for its U.S. audience.
NBC’s Olympic Winter Games coverage will be anchored by Avid technology as the network brings the sports showcase back to American viewers.
NBC Olympics will rely on Avid technology and solutions for its production of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea from February 8 – February 25.
At the heart of the production, from creation to delivery, will be Avid MediaCentral. The technology will allow NBC Olympics to maximize the efficiency of the entire workflow in multiple locations across several continents during the 18 days of coverage.
“Sports broadcasters today need to accelerate their workflows and maximize efficiency across every aspect of the media value chain, particularly for complex, large-scale events like the Winter Olympics,” said Louis Hernandez, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, Avid. “With MediaCentral at the heart of its content production and media management workflows, NBC Olympics can deliver coverage to audiences in more powerful and efficient ways.”
The network also will deploy Avid NEXIS, a software-defined storage platform, as the fulcrum of its production pipeline. The storage system will connect with dozens Media Composer editing suites located throughout the Olympic venue. NBC will leverage the Avid production technology to help them gather the largest sports audience in Winter Olympics history.
